CNseg achievements, since 1951, ensured the insurance expansion in the country
The early 1950s wasthe so-called developmental period presage, characterized by major political and economic transmutations in Brazil. The National Confederation of Insurance Companies (CNseg) emerged in this atmosphere environment in 1951, when Getúlio Vargas took his second term as the 17th Republic President. CNseg, at the time, was structured as a Federation (Fenaseg).Therefore, are seven decades of vigorous action in favor of the sector’s advancement. To mark the date, the entity created a commemorating stamp referring to the 70th anniversary of its foundation. The seal is show up on the entity’s Website (cnseg.org.br), as well as, in its publications, emails’ signature and entity documents.
The propagation commitment to essential insurance concepts is an integral and inseparable part of its history. “Everything that is important must have insurance”, said the campaign that circulated throughout the country in the 1970s. The pieces brought facts that had worldwide repercussions, such as the aggression against Pietà on May 21, 1972.
Twenty years later, until the publication of the “Carta de Brasília”, in 1992, the entity’s struggle was centered on deregulation, privatization and debureaucratization. This struggle continued for some time. The 90’s were numerous in events that marked the history of the sector itself. In 1998, the Brazilian Reinsurance Institute (IRB) was converted into a Company and changed name to IRB Brasil Resseguros. The Supplementary Health segment was finally regulated, through the Law 9656/98 and the subsequent creation of the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) by Law 9961 of January 28, 2000.
Insurance Education
The expressive premiums and provisions growth subserved the way for the 2000s. The entity trajectory pointed by a commitment to spread the insurance culture in Brazil was consolidated with the launch of the Insurance Education Program in 2016. The program is in line with the National Strategy for Financial Education (Enef) and aims to combat misinformation about insurance, providing qualified information that helps consumers in decision-making.
The fact is that the entity has participated since the first edition of the National Financial Education Week, held in 2014, with the involvement of public and private entities. In 2018, CNseg Radio Station and the Confederation’s Insurance Education Series booklets conquered the Enef Seal, granted by the National Financial Education Committee – Conef (today replaced with a renewed format by the Brazilian Financial Education Forum – FBEF) in recognition of the projects of financial education, social security and insurance education, of public interest, free of charges and without commercial and promotional purpose.
Insurance Glossary
CNseg undertakes initiatives in the field of communication. In the 6th Enef Week, for example, which took place in May 2019, the entity presented a series of interviews and lectures with experts on topics related to insurance. Mutualism, auto insurance, home, supplementary health and capitalization were some of the main topics covered.
In October of that year, the Confederation launched the new Insurance Glossary, a publication that became part of the Insurance Education Program, contributing to broaden the understanding of the main concepts of the sector and the characteristics of its products. Since then, the Confederation has promoted several actions aimed at the dissemination of essential concepts of the insurance activity and the strengthening of the notion of risk prevention, as a result of the covid-19 pandemic. Striking history in a time journey
Throughout 2021, the entity’s trajectory will be evidenced in the CNseg series: 70 years making history, produced by the CNseg Insurance Market Documentation and Memory Center (Cedom), composed of special topics on the most relevant actions and initiatives carried out over the period course. The series contents, to be published monthly on website (cedom.cnseg.org.br), will allow readers to take a trip through time, learn about important national insurance sector’s chapters and check the entity’s role in proposing innovating ideas since your foundation.
The series will recall some of the industry’s flags, defended by the Confederation. Among them, the following stand out: the recognition of strategic importance for the sustained growth of the national economy, the effort to disseminate the insurance culture and the improvement of the relationship with consumers. Throughout these decades, the entity has been present at important moments in the history of Brazil, contributing to the country’s socioeconomic development by strengthening the national insurance sector.
